Director of Operations for Juniper Hill School
Juniper Hill School is a high-quality private school certified by the Maine Department of Education (K-4th grade) and a childcare facility licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services (3-5 year olds). The school currently serves prekindergarten through 4th grade students with plans to expand the ages/grades in the coming years (and 60% of the elementary students are currently publically funded). The well-known, award-winning educational program is nature-based, place-based, and heart-centered with a foundational relationship to the community. We also serve as a demonstration/model school for schools and organizations across the country and have close relationships with several higher educational institutions. Minimum of a B.A. in related field. Administrative experience in an educational setting with demonstrated leadership qualities preferred. Knowledge of and desire to obtain training in Juniper Hill School’s core philosophies are required. Willingness to pursue professional development in school leadership is preferred.
General Information: The Director of Operations works with and reports directly to the School Founder/Executive Director.
•The Director of Operations assists the Executive Director with Development projects, school outreach, and education of faculty.
• The Director of Operations shall have direct supervision of the faculty and staff and shall coordinate the activities of the organization to further the school’s mission. The Director of Operations shall hold regular meetings of the faculty and staff and see that the curriculum established by the Executive Director and the general policies of the Board are understood and followed.
OVERVIEW/PRINCIPAL DUTIES OF THE DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
~Ensures that the school is in compliance with all applicable governmental laws and regulations.
~Embodies, manifests, and advocates the mission of the school in all his/her operational decisions.
~Develops operational policies, systems, and practices that bring to life the vision for the school as expressed by the Board within the budget approved by the Board.
~Monitors and addresses all matters of school climate and culture.
~Engages and (where applicable) manages the various constituencies of the school – including parents, teachers, donors, friends, and community partners.
~Identifies and implements sound financial policies to further the school’s mission and ensure the school’s financial health.
~Represents the school in its relations with state and federal agencies and with local, state, regional, and national educational organizations and licensing agencies.
~Acts as liaison with other organizations to create new opportunities for community partnerships.
~Supervises and/or assists with all other aspects of the school’s operation, including (but not limited to) facilities maintenance and operation, summer programs, and alumni affairs.
~Works with teachers to implement and coordinate curricula established by the Executive Director; coordinates and attends all faculty meetings; serves as liaison between teachers and parents to resolve classroom issues.
~Maintains school discipline policy in a consistent and respectful manner.
~Serves as Business Manager for Juniper Hill School; executes the financial policy set by the Board of Directors (including communicating Board policy and decisions to parents and prospective parents).
~Prepares all preliminary, annual, and final school budgets; monitors income, expenditures, collections, and cash flow; maintains appropriate financial records; oversees growth of an employee benefits program; provides for an annual audit of the school’s financial records and financial positions.
~Under the supervision of the Executive Director, handles all matters regarding employment, payroll, retention, and dismissal of personnel subject to the Director of Operations supervision; establishes salaries and contracts; creates job assignments and conducts performance evaluations; provides for orientation and training of all staff; prepares and maintains an employee handbook for all staff.
~ Manages risk at the school to ensure the safety of personnel and students both on campus and on offsite trips; maintains appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the school in all its activities.
~Represents and explains the Juniper Hill School’s mission and programming to prospective families; informs parents of enrollment policies; oversees and coordinates recruitment of students.
~Provides the Board with monthly status reports and monthly operating statements; brings to the Executive Director’s and Board’s attention any issues that may require Board action or Board education.
Job Type: Full time salaried, 12 month exempt
Salary Range: $40,000-44,000K (commensurate with experience)
